          According to military records, John T. Grefski was born on May 5, 1898. Because of his age of 19 years old in 1917, John T. Grefski was eligible for the draft during World War I.
 

George Toriello was able to find his World War I Draft Registration dated 1918 and John T. Grefski was living at 367 Washington Avenue Hackensack, New Jersey, and his occupation at that time was a paper maker, working for Bogota Paperboard Company.
  

When World War II broke out in December of 1941, John T. Grefski enlisted into the Army on
August 6, 1942 at the age of 44 years old. John T. Grefski was an Army Private with the 3928th Quartermaster Truck Company, running supplies such as fuel, ammunition, food, and mail to the front lines. 

John T. Grefski was Killed in Action, for which he received the Purple Heart, on Christmas Eve, December 24, 1944 in Africa and is buried at Tunis Cemetery, Tunisia Carthage, Africa.
